The fortress is situated in southern Ardeche, at Labastide de Virac in the heart of the Ardeche Gorges, between Vallon Pont d’Arc and Barjac. Built on a rocky spur, the chateau des Roure gives a magnificent panorama over the Ardeche Gorges and the valley of the Gard.
Built in the 15th Century this fortress is a perfect example of mediaeval fortifications. The most powerful siege machines of the Middle Ages have been reconstructed in the mediaeval park.
The Chateau des Roure had one of the largest silk farms in Ardeche, even today our breeders perpetuate the raising of silkworms within the chateau to retain this expertise
